A New Species of the Leafhopper Genus Phlogotettix Ribault (Homoptera, Cicadellidae) from Eastern China

Phlogotettix polyphemus sp, n. is described from eastern China. The new species is very similar to Ph. monozoneus Li et Wang, 1998 in the structure of the penis; and to Ph. cyclops M, et R., 1855, in the shape of the styli, connective, and posterior margin of abdominal sternite VII in female. The genus Phlogotettix is represented in Europe by a single amphiboreal species, Phlogotettix cyclops M. et R. Most of its species apparently inhabit the eastern Palaearctic Region. For example, 4 very distinctive species were described recently from China (Li and Wang, 1998). One of these, Ph. polyphemus sp. n., is closely related to Ph. monozoneus Li et Wang in the shape of the penis; and to Ph. cyclops M. et R., in the structure of the styli and connective and the shape of the posterior margin of sternite VII in female.
