2,4,5-Trimethoxypropiophenone from Piper marginatum

Piper marginatum Jacq. is popularly known as "malvaisco" in Paraiba, Brazil, where it is used as a food flavouring agent and also as an antidote for snake bites (Maxwell and Rampersad, 1988; Ramos et al., 1986). The roots were collected in September 1993 near the city of Joao Pessoa, PB. A voucher specimen is deposited at the Herbarium Lauro Pires Xavier - JPB of the Universidade Federal da Paraiba.
