Onion varieties, namely, N-53 and Bellary red responded well to the inoculation of different AM fungi. The percent root colonization, spore count, population of free living N_2-fixers and P-Solubilizers were significantly highest in N-53 inoculated with Gigaspora margarita as compared to other AM fungi iscreened. However Bellary red responded inoculation of Acaulospora laevis. A matching trend was observed with respect to shoot P well to the concentration, plant growth and yield which were significantly highest in N-53 and Bellaryred onion seedlings inoculated with G margarita and A.laevis respectively. All the parameters were least in uninoculated control.
