Effect of different sowing techniques on wheat yield under rice-wheat cropping system.

A field study was conducted in Bihar, India, during the two consecutive years, viz., 2002-03 and 2003-04, with three sowing treatments with six replications in factorial randomized block design. Experiment on wheat was conducted at all the locations where different sowing treatments were done viz. standing paddy crop (paira) in 2.5 cm water depth and drained after 24 h (T1), sown just after water drainage (T2), cross dry ploughing, broadcasting and mixing by cross ploughing (T3). The maximum yield of 26.73 q/ha was recorded in T, followed by T2 and T1 with the tune of 23.13 and 18.01 q/ha, respectively. The yield and economic returns were found to be maximum in the treatment T3. Although, the cost-benefit ratio was found to be higher in the treatment sown just after water drainage, T2 (2.74). Considering the economic returns the treatment T2 was observed to give better performance among all applied treatments.
