Nitrogen is essential for increased irrigated rice productivity in Kashmir, but the severity of leaf blast and neck rot is increased with N-application. The potential to evaluate N-application against the status daring 2005 and 2006 in Kharif seasons at Khudwani Anantnag (J & K). Moderately resistant rice variety of Chenab was tested for die response of N-levels in relation to outbreaks of blast disease. Sowing was undertaken on 6 May and plantings, on 15 June. Under irrigated conditions, observations revealed that highest basal dose of nitrogen (50 kg/ha) exhibited maximum intensity of leaf blast (30.70) and neck rot (5.50), but it was increased when 25 kg N applied after 30 days of transplantation, whereas grain yield was also increased as compared with the 20 kg/ha basal dose of nitrogen in both the yearn. The maximum yield was recorded when 30 kg N/ha was applied as basal dose followed by 15 kg N/ha applied after 30 days of transplantation even blast disease occurred more than without N-applications.
