Ethrel (200 gammag/ml) and cobalt chloride (15 gammag/ml) were given as foliar application to groundnut cvs M-522 and SG-84 at vegetative (25 DAS) and flowering (45 DAS) stages. Biochemical estimations were done from gynophores, immature and mature pods excised from 65 DAS old plants and also from seed and podwall separately at 95 DAS and harvest stages. Total soluble sugars, proteins and invertase enzyme activity increased with CoCld2 and decreased with ethrel in all the plant parts studied. Higher sugar content was observed in the seed than in the podwall. Protein content was almost the same in both the seed and the podwall; with CoCld2 recording highest values and ethrel the least. Invertase enzyme activity though decreased in both seed and podwall as the pod matured but was relatively higher in the seed than the podwall in both the cultivars.
