Major Sucking Pests of Traditional Rice Varieties in Comparison with Recommended Rice Varieties of Malnad Region of Karnataka

Tlie investigation on major sucking pests of traditional rice varieties in comparison with recommended rice varieties of Malnad region of Karnataka was under taken at Agricultural Research Station, Honnavile, Shimoga during kharif 2009-10. In presencestudy it was found that all varieties showed resistant to thrips damage except Mysore mallige, Dehali basumathi and JGL-1798. Among the different varieties Jaya and Gandhasale recorded significantly higher damage of green leaf hopper and Brown plant hopper respectively. Whereas, MTU-1001 showed resistant to both green plant hopper and Brown plant hopper. Among the recommended varieties higher grain yield was recorded in MTU-1001 (48.40 q/ha) whereas, Salem sanna (45.10 q/ha) in traditional vai ieties.
