A field experiment was conducted in Jammu and Kashmir, India during the rabi seasons of 2001-02 and kharif seasons of 2002 to investigate the residual effects of combinations of organic amendments (farmyard manure, FYM at 2.5 t/ha; Ls, Leucaena sp.; and Ps, paddy straw) with different rates of N:P:K (100% recommended, 100:50:40 kg/ha; and 50 and 150% recommended), supplied on wheat, on the subsequent crop (rice). The grain and straw yield of rice increased significantly due to the residual effects of 100 or 150% RDF combined with FYM or Ls; FYM + Ps; and 100% RFD + Ps. Nutrient uptake in rice increased due to residual effects of Ls or Ps, FYM + Ps + 100% RDF, and Ls + 150% RDF. The soil NPK status increased with the application of 150% RDF combined with Ls and/or FYM in the preceding crop.
