II. Ministers Adopt the Nusa Dua Declaration

At the 11th special session of UNEP's Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GCSS-11/GMEF), ministers pledged to step up the global response to the major environmental and sustainability challenges of this generation. The wide-rangingNusa Dua Declaration was agreed in the closing session of the GCSS-11/GMEF which took place in February, in Bali, Indonesia. The 19-point Declaration underlines the vital importance of biodiversity and the urgent need to combat climate change and to work towards a good outcome in Mexico later in the year at the UN climate convention meeting. It also underlines the key opportunities to be gained from accelerating the transition to a low-carbon resource-efficient Green Economy, and signals a new level ofdetermination and ambition by the world's environment ministers to catalyse a sustainable path for the 21st century.
