American porcelain in 1764 English newspapers - a reassessment

Cookworthy's Plymouth & Bristol Porcelain by F Severne Mackenna1 contains a reference to a newspaper announcement quoted on page 26 which, in the context of early porcelain production in America, states 'it may not be amiss to quote what has previously been considered by many to be the first definite proof of success.2 It is found in a newspaper announcement in the Bristol Fournal(sic) of 24th November 1764, and states 'this week some pieces of porcelain, manufactured in Georgia, was imported; the materials appear to be good, but the workmanship is far from being admired'.
