Since the late 1980s, high-speed steel (HSS) rolls for hot strip mills have been developed to meet strip quality and efficient mill productivity requirements. For earlier stands, resistance against wear and surface deterioration of HSS rolls have been significantly improved. For later stands, a new type of HSS roll was developed that shows both excellent wear resistance and anti-sticking resistance. Based on the rolling results of the above-mentioned HSS rolls, roll usage can be optimized.
