摘要

Since the inception of measurements in liquid steel using temperature, oxygen and carbon probes, test results have been transmitted to the instrument by an insulated electrical cable. Commonly and interchangeably referred to as cords, cables or lead wires, these cables have posed numerous potential problems that adversely affect the accuracy of the measurement, or delay or prevent a successful measurement. Sufficient time to find and fix wire-related problems upstream from a caster is not always available. Incorrect results or delayed measurements can wreak havoc on the smooth operation of a steel mill. Therefore, mill personnel and suppliers of these products have fought to maintain long-term integrity of the transmission system. Product development and innovation have improved reliability, but the best line of defense against these problems has been constant attention to the cable and connectors, which is manpower-intensive and not always successful.
