摘要

Recent technological advances in steel making technology demand longer service life of refractory materials for high production efficiency and economic operation. Further the globalisation process makes it more pronounced and creates a stiff competition for survival. Since the production of iron and steel encompasses large numbers of integrated processes, synchronisation of all processes designed for the each flow process is very much required. Otherwise any weak link in the process can break the entire chain and may create a disaster. The performance of each process again, therefore, depends on the success of its critical rate determining steps. Iron and steel, being a highly temperature intensive processing operations, refractories is always a critical success factor which needs special attention and technological solution. Therefore, the selection of right quality of refractories for the technological requirements can not be over looked. The general process flow is outlined below which links several processes to be performed in a defined sequence.
