Based on the standard k - ε turbulent model and the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations, the finite volume method and the SIMPLE algorithm were adopted to carry out the three-dimensional numerical simulation of the internal unsteady flow within a vortex pump in the double reference frames. According to the results of the numerical simulation, the internal unsteady flow in the vortex pump was analyzed. The calculated results of the blade surface pressure of the impeller and performance prediction of the pump were compared with the experimental data to prove the feasibility of the calculation method. It is very useful to the internal flow pattern analysis, performance prediction, efficiency enhancement and optimum design of the vortex pump.
