Chilean SX-EW Project Moves Ahead with Bateman Technology

Bateman's first solvent extraction project in Chile, a design-engineering contract to establish a 25,000-mt/yr solvent extraction/electrowinning (SX/EW) plant for the Mantos de Luna copper project, is nearing completion. The project was awarded to a joint venture between Bateman and Minmetal S.A, a local Chilean engineering and construction firm, by Compafiia Minera Mantos De La Luna S.A of Chile. The project employs Bateman's proprietary reverse-flow, mixer-settler technology provided by the Bateman Settler, chosen as the preferred technology by the client. The Bateman /Minmetal S.A. joint venture has completed the detailed design phase and construction of the plant is due to be completed by the last quarter of 2005. The Mantos de Luna project is located near Tocopilla in the country's northern region. Due to the proximity to the coastline, the project will make use of sea water for leaching of copper ores. This necessitates the use of chloride-resistant materials of construction.
