摘要

Yemen's ousted former president, AliAbdullah Saleh, continues to demonstrate his ability to remain politically active, supporting a rebellion against the government that replaced him. That role earned him the condemnation of the UN Security Council, which last month released a report that also accused him of significant corruption, siphoning up to $60 billion in oil revenues during his 33 years in power (EC Feb.27'15). President of Yemen from 1990-2012, after having led North Yemen since 1978, Saleh's unparalleled knowledge of the country's complex web of relationships, and his ability to manipulate them, ensured he maintained enough influence to hold the country together — surviving a civil war in the mid-1990s.
