Inside the al-Saud's Contradictory Regional Policy

Saudi Arabia was caught flat-footed in the early days of the Arab Spring. Almost two years on, however, it has emerged as one of the most active — if not always one of the loudest — Mideast voices in the ongoing regional upheaval. Riyadh has charted a course of supporting revolution in some countries, while propping up the government in others. Despite its aging leadership, ossified monarchy and distaste for confrontation, the kingdom is so far managing to stay relevant in a rapidly changing region.
