India has imposed a provisional safeguard duty of 5pc advalorem minus any anti-dumping duty on imports of unwrought aluminium. India’s Directorate General of Safeguards has determined that increased imports of unwrought aluminium have caused serious damage to the domestic industry. The directorate decided to impose a provisional duty as “critical circumstances exist” where any delay in the imposition of a safeguard measure would cause irreparable damage to the domestic industry. The duty will remain in place for a period of 200 days pending final determination of the safeguard investigation, which started this month.
