Indias Vedanta to boost aluminium production

Indian private-sector resources firm and utility Vedantas Bharat Aluminium (Balco) unit has commissioned the 325,000t Balco II smelter with all 336 pots operational. Vedanta is also repairing and relining 168 pots at the first line of its 1.25mn t/yr Jharsuguda-II aluminium smelter. The company commissioned the first line of the Jharsuguda-II aluminium smelter in July, but because of a power shutdown in early August it had to take the pots out of production. It has commissioned about 65 pots at the second line and expects to ramp up the line in the next 3-6 months. The commissioning of the pots at the third line is expected to start in September.
