Alba produces more aluminium in 2013

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) increased production in 2013 while many aluminium smelters in the world cut capacity amid low prices and market oversupply. Alba produced 912,700t of aluminium in 2013, a leap from 890,217t in 2012. This was partly the result of a 1,000t/yr increase in production capacity that the company made in 2013 by upgrading its Pot Line 5 to AP37 technology, developed by Rio Tinto Alcan, following an increase in the line current. “As we look into 2014, we expect to go even higher in terms of operational improvements and plant reliability,” Alba chief executive Tim Murray said.
