EFFICIENCY BOOST FOR LATROBE ELECTRICITY NETWORK

An $11 million pilot project that has involved new consortium NovaPower, SP AusNet, Envestra, the Victorian Government, the Latrobe City Council, AN2 and Low Carbon Australia, uses high-efficiency Caterpillar gas-fired engines in an innovative solution that provides lower-emissions power and defers network investments. According to Australian Bureau of Statistics 2011 figures, the city of Traralgon itself has a population of 25,700, while the Latrobe City Council area has 72,000. The local council predicts the population will grow by more than 18,500 in the next 25 years and its research has revealed that up to 20 per cent of businesses operating in the district are intending to expand their operations over the next four years.
