The thundering roar of the dragon Langfang, China, 18-21 April 2006

Infar-faraway 1996- both in terms of time and economics - Elevatori attended the first lift exhibition that took place in Beijing. The 1996 report was titled "The roar of the dragon". We wanted to highlight -from the beginning - the potential capacity of the Chinese vertical transportation industry (and the whole country too) was beginning to show. The dragon is one of the traditional mythological symbols of China and at the time we wrote it was a "young dragon", considering it was the first event of its kind ever organised in the country. But even so, in 1996 European visitors were quite impressed. At the time the official name of the event was "China World Elevator Expo" and today is "International Elevator & Escalator Expo", to witness the great growth of the lift sector, in general, and of the exhibition in particular and in the end, most of all the incredible growth of whole China. From a certain point of view, the vertical transportation industry might be taken as the paradigm of how a society and its economy evolve: lifts and escalators are just one aspect of the large scale of investments in the residential and public building sector and infrastructure that represent the growth and the evolution of a whole country.
