This time last year, GPMi reflected on some of the background and plans in place within the LNG landscape; things have changed in the intervening year. Today there are 23 LNG projects proposed that will use Western Canada natural gas as a feedstock; 11 have received NEB Export permits, nine have applied for those permits and are awaiting approval and three more are being discussed. In terms of volume, 21 Bcf/d of export has been approved, 22 Bcf/d are awaiting approval, and 4 Bcf/d being considered for a total of 47 Bcf/d, These plans represent more than 60 Bcf/d of raw gas production with undoubtedly more projects in the works. To support these projects, five pipelines are being planned to connect the Kitimat and Prince Rupert areas to the exiting Spectra and TransCanada sales gas systems with initial design capacities of about 10 Bcf/d expandable to more than 20 Bcf/d.
