I can probably start and end this article in two words this year - Microdochium patch! We started the year with a snow melt, leaving behind a significant proportion of areas with fiery snow mould to deal with (Image I). Imagine my disappointment whenthe snow melted at STRI to reveal a frozen surface and no snow mould (not a good day in the Turfgrass Protection office!). Where snow mould had developed, eradicant fungicide application could halt the disease spread, but renovations were often requiredto deal with the scars left behind. Anyone who had followed a good preventive fungicide programme reaped the benefits of forward planning and cleaner greens emerged from the snow.
