Ethane traded out of the Mont Belvieu NGL hub in Texas is priced at the highest levels since October 2018, and additional increases could be on the way. Informal talk was heard in northwest European trade circles last week about petrochemical companies in the region that use ethane as feedstock loading up on US barrels even at current prices to avoid stiffer bills later. The current increase in the Mont Belvieu price has more to do with the historic surge in natural gas than with ethane' s own fundamentals, but these fundamentals are now projected to tighten, paving the way for further price gains.
