Longevity in WAGR syndrome

WAGR syndrome is a multiple congenital anomaly-mental retardation syndrome. WAGR stands for Wilms tumour, Aniridia, Genitourinary abnormalities and intellectual disability (mental retardation). In addition to genitourinary abnormalities and intellectual disability, it is associated with a number of psychiatric co-morbidities; autistic spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyper-activity disorder, obessisive-compulsive disorder, anxiety and behavioural problems. The commonest cause of mortality is due to renal failure. Little information is available on life expectancy and longevity of individuals with WAGR syndrome. Carers and professionals need to be aware of the outcome of children with WAGR syndrome and possible life expectancy. We report on the oldest person with WAGR syndrome identified from literature.
