Copenhagen plans ahead - The Danish capital is laying the foundations of a new approach to traffic management

Over the last few years, traffic flows on the Copenhagen Ring Road (M3) in Denmark have been characterised by increasing capacity problems that have led to serious incidences of queuing - especially during the morning and afternoon rush hours. Traffic has grown from approximately 30,000 vehicles per day in 1980 to 45,000 in 1990 and 70,000 vehicles in 2000.
