Study of drinking water quality of villages in different unions of Perambalur district, Tamil Nadu

Physico-chemical analysis of drinking water from various sources in villages confirmed their potability. Water obtained from different sources is associated with a large number of impurities. Water gets impurities of various kinds from ground or soilwith which it comes into contact. Water also gets contaminated with sewage and industrial wastes. Perambalur district is a backward district. The villagers of this district use lake water, well water and borewell water for drinking as well as cooking according to the availability of water. Eight villages of Veppur union, Alathur union, Andimadam union, T. Palur union, Jeyamkondam union and Ariyalur union were selected (Fig. 1) for studying the potability of their water sources. Hie details of samples are given in Table 1.
