Staff comfort has arguably always been an issue for business; however, the issue of duty of care, along with ever-tightening health and safety legislation, has thrust the subject right into the limelight. Further, a report by the Department for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, looking specifically at how environmental factors affect worker performance, has drawn more attention to the issue. The findings are in accordance with something that TAG UK has been talking about for years -efficient buildings and comfortable staff help make profitable businesses. A typical knee-jerk reaction would be to condemn the increase in red tape and to dread the installation costs of the new technology needed to monitor and maintain a 'perfect' working environment. But it is not necessarily bad news for businesses, which can stay one step ahead of the game by embracing technology and by ensuring security and environmental comfort is at the top of their agendas.
