What some commentators are calling 'safety versus the bottom line' highlights fears that one of the consequences of the current challenging economic climate that's affecting businesses and Government could resultin cost cutting that reduces focus on the management of fire safety risks. Despite the obvious need for organisations to do everything they can to survive the economic turbulence, this is not the time to neglect fire risks, because a fire will at best be disruptive and could at worst lead to death, injury and even closure. We've already seen the Fire & Rescue Service recently announce that fire crews may no longer respond to certain calls originating from automatic fire alarms in shops, offices or factories, following statistics which revealed that 97% of all responses to automatic fire alarms proved to be false alarms and there is clear evidence that this is already happening in some regions.
