10-POINT PLAN TO ENSURE BUSINESS DOES NOT FALL FOUL OF THE DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION ACT

Worried about the Disability Discrimination Act? Concerned that your business could fall foul of the new legislation and end up paying the price for non-compliance? Help is at hand with the publication of a 10-point plan to assist companies in staying on the right side of the DDA. The 10-point plan on how to comply with the DDA has been produced by the Navigator Group Ltd, a disability training and access audit specialist which offers advice to businesses on how to improve their services to disabled customers. Navigator's director of access services, Brendan O'Gorman, presented the plan to architects, designers, facilities managers, surveyors and building managers attending the recent Accessibility Conference, held in London. By 1 October 2004, every provider of goods and services must have taken reasonable steps to modify premises that make access impossible or difficult. With only a few months to go, many businesses may still be unsure of how and where to start to make their premises disability-friendly. Brendan O'Gorman said that companies must act now to ensure their premises comply - if not, they risk financial penalties, damage to their reputation and, ultimately, loss of customers.
