Perhaps more than any other technology deployment on the corporate agenda, successful Workgroup and Enterprise Collaboration is centred on people and processes, not the enabling or supporting technology Businesses need a clear and well-communicated strategy and goals for a collaboration solution, they also need to commit what may be mistaken as being a disproportionate level of resources to handle change management within the business. However, before any of this can be initiated, those charged with leading the business through the change need to gain a clear understanding of the business requirements and the cultural diversity that exists. Successfully managing a business culture through a period of change can make or break a project that has already consumed hundreds of thousands if not millions. The key to success san understanding of the requirements, anxieties, and needs of the culture. The deployment of any kind of solution, be it small or large, will require people to change the way that they work. People, on the whole, resist change. We are creatures of habit, and find stability comforting. A requirement to change working practices can bring about different kinds of reactions from an employee base - from fear and uncertainty, to disillusionment and even resentment.
