ENERGY EFFICIENCY FROM THE CORE TO THE PERIPHERY

At national level, the government demonstrated its commitment to tackling climate change by passing the Climate Change Act in November 2008, including a legally binding target of achieving an 80 per cent reduction in green house gas emissions by 2050. This agenda is increasingly filtering down to regional and local government levels where area specific energy guidelines are being drawn up and implemented, such as the London Renewables Toolkit (LRT). We have also seen the introduction of Energy Performance Certificates and Display Energy Certificates, drawing attention to the problem of inefficient buildings.
