PESTICIDE USAGE BY SPORTS CLUBS ON LOCAL AUTHORITY LAND

Many sports clubs operate as tenants on Local Authority land, as well as in public parks or common land. This raises the clear issue that the Local Authority should be aware of the maintenance operations being undertaken by its tenants, especially with regard the application of pesticides. Unfortunately, the general public has the perception that sport uses vast quantities of hazardous chemicals. If the Local Authority is unaware of the actions of its tenants then a relatively simple and small problem becomes a significant political issue. This only serves to enhance the public viewpoint.
