The government has awarded 33 oil and gas blocks for exploration as part of the eighth round of auction under the New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP) that was held in Oct. 2009, said Home Minister P. Chidambaram in a media briefing.The approval allows the oil companies to finish their exploration plans for the awarded blocks, and then enter into production sharing contracts with the Oil Ministry and seek further statutory clearances.
