Centrica Cuts Back in Trinidad

The UK's Centrica is to cut its interest in gas exploration Block 2(ab) off Trinidad and Tobago. Present since April 2007 with a 32.5% stake, it recently bought out compatriot Tullow Oil's 32.5% interest, briefly increasing its share to 65%. But on Thursday, Centrica confirmed it had agreed to farm out most of its interest to two Canadian-listed independents: Niko Resources, which will have 26%, and Voyager, with 9.75%. The deals - plus the transfer of operatorship to Niko - are subject to Trinidadian approval, expected in the third quarter. This would leave Centrica on 29.25% and state Petrotrin unchanged on 35%. It would also mark Niko's debut in, and Tullow's departure from, Trinidad.
