Valuations for global upstream mergers and acquisitions (M&A) soared in the second quarter thanks to a further increase in deal values in the North American market, according to energy research group IHS Herold. Herold’s latest quarterly transaction review shows that 69 deals took place in the second quarter with a combined total value of $33 billion. In the first quarter of this year, Herold logged 57 deals with a total value of $37.4 billion.
