In modern piggeries many diseases can be addressed by improving management and with the use of antibiotics. However, some diseases are still the cause of severe problems in some herds,. One such is Glasser's disease, an infectious disease caused by Haemophilus parasuis, leading to a septicaemia often with non-specific symptoms such as fever and sudden death. If the animals survive the initial infection, many of them may go on to develop meningitis or polyarthritis. In order to protect pigs against these serious outbreaks Intervet International has developed a new vaccine called Porcilis Classer, Two doses are required with a two week interval between, which protects the pigs until they are slaughtered.
