UK Could Save $58B on Power

A recession-induced slump in UK electricity and gas demand could potentially save ￡35 billion ($57.6 billion) in capital spending on generation and transmission projects over the next decade and a half, according to a report published Tuesday by consultants Ernst & Young (E&Y). The report, Securing the UK's energy future - seizing the opportunity, suggests the radical savings can be made only if UK consumers continue to adopt a frugal attitude towards consumption. The report was commissioned by UK utility and gas company Centrica, owner of the British Gas business.
