BP Close to Kazakh Exit

Lukoil Chief Executive Vagit Alekperov said Thursday that Lukoil expects to pay just under $1.5 billion for BP's stake in their Lukarco joint venture, which owns 12.5% of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium and 5% of the massive Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan (IOD Apr.7,p8). Alekperov said negotiations continue, but industry sources tell International Oil Daily they understand that talks have been completed, and the deal is only awaiting approval from the Kazakh government to go ahead.
