Chinese Gas Consumption Hits New Record

China's natural gas consumption in Au- gust reached a record 8.8 billion cubic me- ters (10 billion cubic feet per day), 23.8% higher than in the same month of 2009, ac- cording to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). Data from the National Bureau of Statistics show that domestic gas production was up 8.3% in August to 7.6 Bcm (8.65 Bcf/d), while cumulative output between January and August totaled 62.46 Bcm. Of the August total, imports accounted for 1.77 Bcm (2 Bcf/d), or nearly double imports in the same month last year.
