Gazprom continues to slot the pieces into place on the route of its proposed South Stream gas pipeline, signing two accords with Serbia during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to Belgrade Tuesday. The deals, inked by Gazprom and Serbia's Srbijagas, envisage the creation of two joint ventures, in which Gazprom is set to hold 51% and the Serbian firm 49%. One will design, build and run the Serbian stretch of South Stream. The other will build and operate the Banatsky Dvor underground gas storage facility, capable of storing 450 MMcm (IOD Aug.5,p3). Gazprom chief Alexei Miller said the two schemes are "strategically important for the whole of southeastern Europe."
