Top Russian gas independent Novatek saw net profits jump fivefold year-on-year in the first quarter as higher revenues and a se- ries of one-off gains boosted the bottom line. The producer posted net income of 11.182 billion rubles ($370 million) in the first three months of 2010 under international finan- cial reporting standards, up from 2.134 bil- lion rubles a year earlier (IOD May19,p8).
