Japan's Toshiba has joined a growing list of potential suitors interested in buying the transmission and distribution (T&D) business of French nuclear giant Areva. Toshiba, which bought US nuclear company Westinghouse in 2006 for more than $5 billion, could have to fork out a similar amount to wrench the T&D business from potential rivals including General Electric with Apollo Management and CVC Capital Partners, Axa Private Equity with the UK's Charterhouse Capital Partners, India's Avantha Power & Infrastructure, and China Investment Corp. Market speculation suggests French industrial company Alstom and Schneider Electric are also interested.
