Indian private-sector giant Reliance Industries began producing natural gas from its deepwater Krishna-Godavari Basin fields off the east coast on Wednesday in a move that is expected to transform India's energy landscape. The company opened the valves on one well at 5 p.m. local time, but it will take 12 to 13 hours for the gas to travel from the seabed to the onshore receiving and processing facility at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.
