In the tyre tread formulations used in the Russian tyre industry there are no true plasticisers capable of appreciably lowering the glass transition temperature of the rubber. To improve the cold resistance, technologically ineffective stereoregular polybutadiene rubber having T_g = -1 10°C is additionally introduced into lorry tyre tread isoprene rubber. Recently, to increase ice-covered-road holding and to lower dry-road rolling resistance of tyres, the tread of car tyres has begun to be manufactured only from solution-polymerised styrene butadiene rubber (SSBR), and silicon dioxide has begun to be introduced instead of carbon black [1]. Nevertheless, in a number of Russian winter-grade tyres, a combination of natural rubber and polybutadiene rubber is used in the tread, with silica filling, which poses the question of retaining or even increasing the elastic and dynamic properties of the tread rubber.
