In Sudan Human Rights Org. v. Sudan and Ctr. for Hous. Rights & Evictions v. Sudan (collectively, the "Darfur Case"), the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights ("Commission") found the Sudanese government in violation of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights ("African Charter" or "Charter"). Although it had previously decided a number of cases against Sudan, this was the Commission's first decision dealing with the widespread and large-scale human rights violations in the country's Darfur region, generally attributed to Sudanese government forces and some non-state militias operating on its territory.
