Modeling and Understanding the Physics of Bungee Trampoline Jumping

The various physical mechanisms and energy conversions from one form to another which govern the dynamics involved in the sport of bungee trampoline jumping will be discussed. We propose a simple model involving springs and a mass. Using the model, we develop the equations of motion and make a detailed study of various aspects of the jump as a free vibration problem. We also estimate the forces and accelerations experienced by the person, depending on the mass. This will lead to a calculated measure of safety that can be taken before performing the jump.
