Le Premier Mesolithique du Centre-Quest modalites techniques de l'industrie lithique

Technological study of the lithic industries of the Early Mesolithic of theCentre-Ouest region of France indicates the use of local to regional siliceousmaterials. The aim of the knapping, carried out with a stone hammer, was toproduce both bladelets and small long flakes. The reduction in technical in-vestment is matched by optimization of the resulting production and is evidentthroughout the knapping operations: simplified shaping, maximisation of theinvasion of the available surfaces then integration of the phases of maintenancein the knapping, the use of by-products as supports for common tools. Themodalities can be listed: a unipolar semi-rotating sequence, sometimes follo-wed by other sequences, often with the same characteristics, cutting throughit. We perceive regional preferential choices, which do not seem to be deter-mined by the raw materials or their availability, with a more intensive exploi-tation of the volumes for the Charente corpuses than for those of the Loireestuary. This division recalls a stylistic observation, made on the arrowheads,separating the zone near the Loire estuary from the Charente region.
