Morphological characteristic and photoluminescence property of ZnO tetrapod nanostructures prepared by self-substrate method

A self-substrate method is developed for the synthesis of the novel ZnO tetrapod nanostructures in this work. Electron Microscopy shows that there exists a sudden change in the width of each leg of the tetrapod nanostructures. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and Selected area electron diffraction (SAED) reveal that the tetrapod nanostructures have the same growth direction [0001] along each leg. The photoluminescence spectra of the nanostructures have been measured and the ultraviolet emission at 388.5nm and green emission at 504.5nm are observed.
